I developed a scientific visualization explaining how an AI-powered salmon excluder helps reduce bycatch in the pollock fishery. Working from a research paper, a rough concept sketch, and a draft web story, I designed a clear narrative that shows how the experimental net and camera system allow certain species to swim free while others are selectively retained. The animation illustrated how the trawl and camera move together underwater, using light and particle effects to simulate the environment. I collaborated with scientists and communicators to ensure accuracy while keeping the visuals engaging and accessible. The project was nearly complete before funding was cut, requiring only sound design, voice-over, and a few seconds of field footage for final delivery. My final assets included a polished web illustration and a full motion piece ready for public release.
